Earth Breeze Unscented Laundry Detergent Sheets Review 2023 | Biodegradable, Plastic-Free Laundry Detergent

Earth Breeze Unscented Laundry Detergent Sheets Review 2023 | Biodegradable, Plastic-Free Laundry Detergent

TRR Review: we used Earth Breeze Laundry sheets to do our laundry.

The Top Line

Probably not a buy. Earth Breeze Laundry Sheets are really affordable, but unfortunately, we think the ingredients may be questionable. That said, there is a lot of good done by being plastic-free, super lightweight (less carbon footprint!), and having a fragrance-free detergent option. Lastly, this brand is one of the cheapest convenient pod/pack/strip options if you go the (very flexible) subscription route. Note: prices have not changed with inflation! (as of June 2023)

[Update: This article was updated with pricing in June 2023 — Earth Breeze Laundry sheets are one of the most affordable options!
Additional Update includes the latest research on Poly Vinyl Alcohol (PVA) that is in this product]

Note: This product does include a polymer called Poly Vinyl Alcohol (PVA) — which, while it can biodegradable, it requires very specific conditions in order to do so that most US wastewater treatment facilities in the US are not set up for (study on degradation of PVA in US Wastewater Treatment Plants), which can lead to partially degraded plastic in the environment. TLDR: Biodegradable products that include PVA (which is found in many dishwasher and detergent pods) isn’t quite as clean as it is advertised to be, but still a step up from traditional bottled cleaners.

The Breakdown

  • Cost & Products: $20 for a one-time purchase or $12 for any subscription

    • Note: prices have not changed with inflation! (as of April 2023)

  • How ‘Clean’ Is This? Somewhat clean: Very limited ingredients that are bleach-free, dye-free, phthalate-free. But then it has ingredients like “essence,” polyethylene glycol, and alcohol ethoxylates. Additionally, the sheets contain polyvinyl alcohol.

  • Packaging: Comes in a paper envelope. 😍

  • Purchasing & Shipping: Very easy on the Earth Breeze website and shipping is free. Also available on Amazon.

  • Note: HALF A SHEET PER LOAD! Don’t make the same mistake we did. 😊

  • Good to know: For every package of Earth Breeze, the company donates 10 loads of detergent.

  • What’s Your Impact? No plastic! Sheets are also super light weight, so transport costs are lower than traditional laundry detergent. Produced already dehydrated, sheets also require less water to get the suds going.

The Good:

Fragrance-free option (and scented one!)

Price is GREAT for the convenience - you have to go to powder to get better savings! 💸

Super lightweight, no excess water used to create the sheets

They dissolve and work well on items from towels to delicates

Very flexible subscription model with free shipping

Packaging is minimal and very lightweight

Bleach-free, Phosphate-free, and Phthalate free ❤️

The Bad:

You have to subscribe for savings, but the subscription is very flexible

You are supposed to use a 1/2 sheet - confusing. Why don’t they just split the sheets for us?

Questionable chemical ingredients like “essence,” poly vinyl glycol, and alcohol ethoxylates

The Experience

Context: Prior to going even greener, we have used the normal Seventh Generation (powder and liquid), Tide, and Method. For stains, we are still using OxiClean’s stain remover here and there. We have washed all kinds of clothes and items with Earth Breeze Laundry Detergent Sheets.

  • HALF of a strip is one load! We did not realize this until 10 loads in!

  • Regardless, the strip does dissolve and doesn’t leave residue on clothing

  • Works on both hot and cold cycles

  • Clothes smell fresh

  • Strip dissolves in the water

The Cost

Context: We assumed that the average household of 4 will generate 7 loads of laundry per week or 365 loads per year! We will compare Earth Breeze to a long list of other detergents like Charlie’s, Dropps, Beyond Laundry Sheets, and Sheets Laundry Club, as well as more common drugstore brands like Tide Pods and Method Laundry Packs.

Money Report: This is great! With other brands changing pricing, Earth Breeze Laundry Detergent Strips subscription is legit and comes in near the cheapest end of the scale when it comes to easy to use packs, pods, or strips! Aside from Dropps in bulk (1000 ct), the only way to get cheaper laundry detergent is to go with powder. Yay for cost savings AND convenience!

Our Recommendation:

Probably not a buy. Earth Breeze Laundry Sheets are really affordable, but unfortunately, we think the ingredients may be questionable. That said, there is a lot of good done by being plastic-free, super lightweight (less carbon footprint!), and having a fragrance-free detergent option. Lastly, this brand is one of the cheapest convenient pod/pack/strip options if you go the (very flexible) subscription route. Note: prices have not changed with inflation! (as of June 2023)

We're on a mission to reduce our personal carbon footprint with small, hopefully easy, changes in our home to fight against climate change. This means we're looking for products that may be all natural, ideally zero waste, reusable or compostable -- while still being affordable!
