EC30 Toilet Cleaner | Zero Waste, Biodegradable Toilet Bowl Cleaner Review 2020

EC30 Toilet Cleaner | Zero Waste, Biodegradable Toilet Bowl Cleaner Review 2020

The Top Line: We cannot recommend EC30’s toilet bowl cleaner. Super cool product, smells great, love the foaming action, but the price is outrageously high. We’re talking 5-10x the cost of other toilet bowl cleaners, and not with any real added convenience. We don’t understand.

The Breakdown:

  • Cost & Products: $29.00 for 15 ‘swatches’ or $20.30 if you subscribe

  • Packaging: Compostable packaging, plastic free.

  • Purchasing & Shipping: Easy DTC purchasing process, no complaints!

  • Good to know: They have a lot of trial kits / bundles — we purchased the Home Care Trial Kit.

  • Extra Info: For those that are sensitive to scents, please note that the scent is fairly strong. But we liked it!

  • What’s Your Impact? No plastic, compostable packaging, and no liquids (which means lighter shipping, less carbon footprint). We like!

The Experience

Context: We currently use Seventh Generation liquid toilet cleaning (roughly using 1/2 a bottle a year for two toilets).

  • We think you will need to use 1 pack per week, dropping directly into the bowl and then using a toilet brush after

  • The pack foams up quickly in the bowl, which was cool, and smells great (no bleach smell)

  • We did still have to use a brush after, so no real added convenience here

The Cost

We assume weekly cleanings for 3 bathrooms in a household and compared it with other toilet bowl cleaners from Kaboom, Chlorox, Lysol, Seventh Generation and more:

Money Report: What the what? This is craziness.

The Good:

Pre-measured pods reduce overuse of cleaner (which most people are guilty of)

Zero waste packaging and product

Great clean scent (not light though for those that don’t like scent) that doesn’t smell like bleach!

Zero waste packaging and product

The Bad:

This pricing is outright crazy

You still need to clean weekly and likely use a brush (no convenience benefit to offset the price)

Our Recommendation: We cannot recommend EC30’s toilet bowl cleaner. Super cool product, smells great, love the foaming action, but the price is outrageously high. We’re talking 5-10x the cost of other toilet bowl cleaners, and not with any real added convenience. We don’t understand.

We're on a mission to reduce our personal carbon footprint with small, hopefully easy, changes in our home to fight against climate change. This means we're looking for products that may be all natural, ideally zero waste, reusable or compostable -- while still being affordable!
