Meliora Bath & Body Soap Review 2023 | Natural, Zero-waste Soaps

Meliora Bath & Body Soap Review 2023 | Natural, Zero-waste Soaps

Meliora Bath & Body Soap: Natural and Zero Waste body soaps were a decent buy. Here is our review.

The Top Line:

OK Buy. Meliora’s Bath and Body Soap is a great addition to the shower routine. The bars smell light and lovely and leave skin feeling soft, not dry. On top of that, they are Leaping Bunny Certified and contain good ingredients. Overall, the soap was not the cheapest in the sample, but the Meliora bars were cheaper than any liquid body wash. Plus, the bars ship in either recyclable paper boxes or package free in a paper envelope.

The Breakdown:

  • Cost & Products: $6.99 per bar or $39.99 for a pack of six. There is a 10% discount if you subscribe. For even more green, and the same price, you can get the unboxed version of the Meliora soaps here.

  • How ‘Clean’ Is This? Pretty darn clean. The ingredients are vegan, MADE SAFE and Leaping Bunny certified. Additionally, while there are several scented options, there is also an unscented option.

  • Packaging: Recyclable paper box or unboxed. Your choice!

  • Purchasing & Shipping: The Meliora website is clean and easy to use. Shipping is free on orders over $69.

  • Good to know:

  • What’s Your Impact? No more plastic bottles for shower gel or body wash. Plus better ingredients that make it down your drain. We haven’t bought shower gel in years.

The average person uses 11 bottles of shower gel per year!

The Good:

Super clean ingredients

Zero waste packaging

Leaping Bunny, MADE SAFE certified

Unscented options

Much cheaper than liquid body wash

Leaves skin soft

The Bad:

None really

The Experience

Context: We have been using bar soap for years. One of our OG strategies in reducing plastic came from wanting to reduce our monthly bills. We had not paid much attention to the ingredients in the bars of soap - so we had mainly been purchasing drugstore brands like Dove, Whole Foods brand, Olay, or Yardley. Recently, we have looked into Olive Oil Soaps and the like. Here is our review of Meliora’s Bath and Body Soap Bar:

  • For one, we LOVE the unpackaged option.

  • Soap does come in a paper bag, which is obviously recyclable.

  • The scents are obvious but not too pungent.

  • Lathers on nicely and leaves skin soft —NOT dry.

The Cost

We compared Meliora’s Bath & Body Bar with typical drugstore brands as well as Cleancult, Pre de Provence, and Dr. Squach Soap bars. On average, a family of four will use 30oz of bar soap (as opposed to over 40 bottles of body wash!).

Money Report: Bar soaps are generally going to be less expensive than liquid body wash. Even with the subscription, the Meliora Bath & Body Bars are a touch on the pricey side for body bars, though overall not nearly as expensive as liquid body washes.

Our Recommendation:

We're on a mission to reduce our personal carbon footprint with small, hopefully easy, changes in our home to fight against climate change. This means we're looking for products that may be all natural, ideally zero waste, reusable or compostable -- while still being affordable!
