Blueland Toilet Cleaner Tablets | Eco-friendly, zero-waste toilet cleaner pods

MOSTLY A BUY. We love Blueland’s commitment to zero plastic and it stays consistent with their Toilet Bowl Cleaner tablets— no plastic in packaging, no PVAs in the formula, no harmful ingredients. We also loved the scent and experience — it foamed up very nicely, and it is convenient to use tablets rather than liquid which can get messy. Of course, the tablet format also reduces carbon footprint from shipping — liquid is just so much heavier. Our only flag is that these toilet tablets are pricey. We break down just how pricey below — so it comes down to how much you use, how much you want to pay up for convenience and no PVA.

The Big Zero Waste Dishwasher Review 2023 | Dishwasher Pods, Tablets, and Powder

This was tough because there are so many good brands minimizing harmful ingredients, emissions, and plastic: Ecover, Dropps, and Thrive Market dishwasher powder were some of our best picks. Based on ingredients that were phosphate free, fragrance-free (optional), hypoallergenic, and chlorine-free. Dirty Labs is great runners up given their limited ingredients and super concentrated powder but it is on the pricy side.

Beyond Auto Dish Tabs Review 2023 | Zero-Waste Dishwasher tabs

MIXED buy from us. From the makers of Beyond Laundry Sheets, Beyond Auto Dish Tabs, if buying the 8-pack, is a reasonable option that competes with Dropps when it comes to cost. Being available on Amazon makes it easy for those that have Prime and do not necessarily want to subscribe. Ingredients on the website can sound scary, but generally are low risk. We like fragrance-free, dye-free, and chlorine-free features. One small issue we had was that we found some items that would have a white film after washing.

Sugarfiber Compostable Paper Plates Review 2023 | Eco-friendly, PFAS-free, biodegradable

It’s a BUY for more special occasions. Overall we had a positive experience with SUGARFIBER’s 10 inch compostable paper plates, they are very heavy duty (no leaks or plates breaking down) and appear very ‘premium’, especially with the interesting floral border design. We love that the plates uses no artificial coating, petroleum, wax, chlorine or bleach. However, we may use these in more special occasions where we really want the design, as there are other compostable options that are less pricy.

Dropps Ultra Concentrated Laundry Detergent Review 2023 | Refillable, Concentrated Laundry Detergent

OK Buy. Dropps Ultra Concentrated Laundry Detergent work well in cleaning and freshening up our laundry. The Clean & Crisp scent is very light and the laundry felt clean when taking it out of the wash. The product is 100% plastic-free and the glass bottle is quite sturdy. The only hang-up is the enzymes that may cause problems for factory workers but the unscented option does not contain enzymes. Overall, we thought Dropps Concentrated Laundry that replaced the small loads is a decent product that avoids the PVA.

Blueland Laundry Tablets Review 2023 | Zero-waste, Sustainable Laundry Detergent

Overall, we thought Blueland’s laundry tablets worked well, our laundry came out clean and smelling fresh (even though it was unscented!). While it continues to be the most expensive of what we have reviewed, we do appreciate that it is one of the few options that are PVA free, while maintaining the convenience of tablet form. Powder-based products like Meliora and Charley’s remain the most economical options.

Dirty Labs Concentrated Laundry Detergent Review 2023 | Plastic-free Concentrated Laundry Detergent

Dirty Labs is an OK buy. Some of the ingredients are questionable based on EWG research. Our clothes came out smelling pretty nice and feeling clean, but liquid is just not our favorite laundry detergent style. The silicon cup is an upgrade from plastic cups and you only need to use the smallest amount of detergent (yay low emissions!). Unfortunately, the scent devolves over time and there are better options for the price.

Meliora Oxygen Brightener Bleach Alternative Booster Review 2023 | Plastic-Free Laundry Detergent

BUY. Run, don’t walk. Meliora’s Bleach Alternative, which is color safe, is a buy. We love that it’s unscented: clothes come out just smelling clean. The ingredients are limited and Leaping Bunny Certified. Packaging is recyclable and the formulation is super concentrated. The only pitfall for some might be that it’s a powder and not a convenient pod/sheet/tablet — but we don’t mind.

Aveeno Kids Mineral Sunscreen Stick Review 2023 | Mineral, reef-friendly sunscreen

GREAT buy if you like the convenience of a stick, but we want to try more. We’re a fan of Aveeno Kids Mineral Sunscreen Stick for Kids - for three key reasons: (1) the stick form factor is great when you’re on the go and you have a wriggling kid, our son actually LIKES it (2) sweat and water resistance means a little more time between re-applications (3) great for sensitive skin. Price point is very reasonable for stick form factor, but certainly more expensive than a liquid sunscreen. Biggest downside is that it does leave a white cast (photos below), so we like to keep some Pipette in the bag too.

The Honest Company Clean Conscious Baby Wipes Review 2023 | Eco-friendly, plant-based, compostable

It’s a BUY, but we want to test more brands. Honest Company Baby Wipes was the 2nd brand we’ve tried (we previously tried Pampers Pure Aqua), and it was so much better (thicker, stronger, easy to get out of the package, and with a great texture - extremely helpful in wiping messy 💩) that we have now been using Honest Company’s Baby Wipes for over a year and have been very hesitant to switch. But given its higher price point, we should probably try out some other brands.

Fern Trail Decorative Block Print Cotton Waste Basket Review 2023 | Eco-friendly, plant-based, 100% cotton

It’s a BUY. We purchased the Fern Trail Block Print Waste Basket for our home office (for paper trash only) because we wanted something more decorative that we can have out and not inside a cabinet for our paper recycling. It is absolutely perfect and we have repeatedly been asked where we got it! While a tad on the pricy side, it is less expensive than other decorative wastebaskets that aren’t quite as eco-friendly. We will be buying a few more!

Dropps Oxi Booster Laundry Pods Review 2023 | Zero-waste, Natural Laundry Detergent

BUY. Dropps OxiBoost Laundry Pods are a convenient, zero-waste option for laundry detergent. The product comes in a recyclable cardboard box and other than PVA, the ingredients are relatively clean. Price-wise, you pay for the convenience of pods compared to powder, but Dropps are some of the cheapest pre-measured options around. Clothes smell just plain old clean since these pods are free from fragrance.

Kind Laundry Sheets in Ocean Breeze Review 2023 | Zero Waste Laundry Sheets

It’s not really a buy from us. Kind Laundry detergent sheets are available in a scented and unscented options, and zero waste packaging, which we love. Sheets are lighter to ship, which means less carbon footprint overall. Unfortunately, they contain a sulfate which can be harmful to aquatic life and also isn’t one of the cheaper options. For convenience, and in a pinch, however, Kind Sheets are also available on Amazon.

Gaia Body 5% Bakuchiol Facial Treatment Review 2023 | Eco-friendly, plant-derived retinol alternative

It’s a BUY. We purchased Gaia Body 5% Bakuchiol Facial Oil primarily to help with dry skin and it delivered! It absorbed into our skin much better than other oils we have tried in the past (including argan, plum seed, squalane, blue tansy and more. Skin feels dewy and plump, and when we put it on before bed, our skin feels moisturized in the morning (not the case in the last couple of years after having a baby). We also appreciate that there are studies that say Bakuchiol is comparable with Retinol, without the irritation…
