Olyxir Tea Strips 2020 Review | Zero-Waste & Sustainable Olive Leaf Tea

Olyxir Tea Strips 2020 Review | Zero-Waste & Sustainable Olive Leaf Tea

The Top Line: Not a buy. At $11.99 for 10 strips, this is significantly more expensive most other teas you might purchase, and not zero-waste by any means.

You buy this if you really love the aromatherapy of the tea, or if you really love olive leaf teas — not for any supposed eco-friendly benefits of it being in tea strip form.

The Breakdown:

  • Cost & Products: $11.99 for a pack of 10 tea strips. They come in three flavors, we purchased the honey lemon rose.

  • How ‘Clean’ Is This? Not at all. Despite being listed as ‘zero-waste’ on amazon, the packaging for this product was most certainly not zero-waste.

  • Packaging: Product came with plastic wrap, and the tea strips were encased in a metal case.

  • Purchasing & Shipping: We bought ours on Amazon.

  • Good to Know: Smells pretty awesome!

  • Coupons: Nah, it’s on Amazon.

  • What’s Your Impact? They tout that this tea is ‘zero-waste’ as the tea strips don’t use any teabags — but they package the product in plastic and metal, and there are no refill purchase options. In our opinion, this is green-washing, and we are not happy with it.

How was the tea?

We tried the honey lemon rose flavor and did appreciate the aromatherapy of the tea. We also like olive leaf teas for it’s nutritional value. The product being in strip form was novel, but the plastic and metal packaging was a huge turn-off — especially when they tout this being a ‘zero-waste’ product. This could not be further from the truth!

The Cost

We are going to compare it other Olive Leaf Tea’s and other popular tea brands:

  • Olyxir Olive Leaf Tea Strips $11.99 for 10 strips | $1.19 per cup

  • Stone & Grove Olive Leaf Tea $14.99 for 16 cups | $0.94 per cup

  • Stash Teas $4.89 for 18 cups | $0.27 per cup

  • Yogi Teas $15.36 for 64 cups | $0.24 per cup

  • Harney & Sons $7.92 for 20 cups | $0.40 per cup

Money Thoughts: $1.19 per cup is crazy expensive. Our thought is, no.

The Good:

Smells fabulous

The Bad:

Crazy expensive

Plastic wrapping!

Metal holder — which would be fine if you could buy refills, but that is not available

Our Recommendation: This is not a buy.

We're on a mission to reduce our personal carbon footprint with small, hopefully easy, changes in our home to fight against climate change. This means we're looking for products that may be all natural, ideally zero waste, reusable or compostable -- while still being affordable!
