Attitude Olive Leaves Deodorant Review 2023 | Natural, Zero-Waste Deodorant

Attitude Olive Leaves Deodorant Review 2023 | Natural, Zero-Waste Deodorant

We tried Attitude’s plastic-free, aluminum-free deodorant for a few weeks. Here is our review.

The Top Line:

PASS. Given the price point is not alluring enough, the tube is a little annoying, and the residue is something we can’t get over, we are a pass on Attitude’s aluminum-free deodorant. We DO love that it is aluminum free, cruelty-free, and plastic free. AND that there is an unscented option. Also, we enjoy that the application is super smooth and requires no ‘heat up’ time, but unfortunately, at this price point, there are better options.

The Breakdown:

  • Cost & Products: $14.65 for a 3oz deodorant stick on Amazon or $11.95 on the Attitude website, but that doesn’t include shipping. It’s 10% off if you subscribe, but shipping is still going to be charged.

  • How ‘Clean’ Is This? Pretty clean! Despite the long list of ingredients, there are none that seem to be of strong concern.

  • Packaging: Plastic-free and biodegradable

  • Purchasing & Shipping: We bought ours on Amazon, but it’s available on their website. You can buy this on the Attitude website, and shipping is free for orders over $60.

  • Good to know: Deodorants are just that: they deodorize. They may pick up a little wetness, but if you are looking to stop sweat, an antiperspirant is what you’re looking for.
Also, the price on Amazon varies based on scent.

  • What’s Your Impact? By going zero-waste, you reduce all of the weird plastic parts of deodorant that make it impossible to recycle, by 100%. We love that. Also, given the natural ingredients, you’re not putting any questionable ingredients (like aluminum) on your skin.

The Good:

Aluminum-Free

Cruelty-Free/Never tested on animals

Paper packaging

Fragrance-free/Unscented option

Natural ingredients like arrowroot and cornstarch

Super smooth and soft application

The Bad:

Leaves a lot of residue

Behold: the used deodorant stick because we forgot to take a photo before use.

The Experience

Context: We’ve previously reviewed other natural deodorants: Native (zero-waste), Public Goods, Myro (refillable), and byHumankind (refillable), Papr, and we did a big deodorant roundup. Here are our thoughts on Attitude Deodorant:

  • Super, super smooth, almost too smooth because it pills a little bit.

  • No warming time for application.

  • Works o-kay… we tried it right before a workout a couple times and it didn’t work as well — need some time to develop.

  • Leaves 🍂🍃 a lot of residue due to how smooth and soft it is. :(

  • The olive leave scent is probably not very olive leafy, but it’s subtle enough.

  • Given the residue, we are probably going to gravitate using this only on workout or home-clothes days. 👕

  • Also, with the softness, pushing up the stick every time is a little annoying, though previously, a user of Native’s deodorant did let us know that you can crumple the paper tube at the bottom!

The Cost

The average user of underarm deodorant/antiperspirant uses between two and twelve sticks per year. In addition to our zero-waste and refillable options, we also compared the aluminum-free, plastic-free deodorant from Attitude to a number of other popular deodorant brands, like Dove, Old Spice, Tom’s of Maine and Schmidt’s as well as a few other aluminum-free and eco-friendly (read: paper or refillable) brands like byHumankind, Native, Beautycounter, Wild, and Papr:

Attitude Olive Leaves Deodorant cost comparison

Money Report: Attitude’s Olive Leaves deodorant is not bad when you consider the website price: the catch is that you’d have to buy 6 of them to get free shipping and to ultimately get that price per unit. Otherwise, it’s at the normal end of the range in the natural deodorant space.

Our Recommendation:

PASS. Given the price point is not alluring enough, the tube is a little annoying, and the residue is something we can’t get over, we are a pass on Attitude’s aluminum-free deodorant. We DO love that it is aluminum free, cruelty-free, and plastic free. AND that there is an unscented option. We're on a mission to reduce our personal carbon footprint with small, hopefully easy, changes in our home to fight against climate change. This means we're looking for products that may be all natural, ideally zero waste, reusable or compostable -- while still being affordable!
