Brandless Bamboo Toilet Paper Review | Sustainable, Tree-Free Bamboo Toilet Paper
The Top Line:
MIXED buy. For starting on a greener journey, the Brandless Bamboo TP is fine. The paper is made out of more sustainable ingredients and it is cheaper than standard Quilted Northern. Additionally, if you are already on the Grove Collaborative site, you can pop this TP package in your cart without sacrificing much space in your home or apartment. The drawbacks are the tissue paper feel , smaller individual rolls, and plastic packaging.

How ‘Clean’ Is This? Pretty clean. The toilet paper is made from sugar cane and bamboo, thus tree-free toilet paper.
Packaging: Sadly, the paper is wrapped in plastic.
Dyes: 😔 It’s white TP, so it is probable that the bamboo has been dyed.

What’s Your Impact? The toilet paper is made from bamboo and sugar cane, which grow much faster than trees. They require less water and other resources to grow before harvesting for production of toilet paper, thus making it more sustainable than the tree-based toilet paper.
The Experience
Context: We have used Scott, Seventh Generation, Cottonelle, Charmin and just about every drugstore brand that exists. We have also tried our fair share of bamboo and recycled paper at this point.
The toilet paper is not scratchy, it is soft.
Unfortunately, it is also a bit light. Kind of like tissue paper.
No breaking, tearing, or pilling.. just doesn’t feel any kind of … sturdy.
The Cost
One source suggests that the average person uses 100 rolls of toilet paper per year, so we are going to use that for cost comparison. We’ll compare mostly online brands which we’ve reviewed the past (and recently done a big bamboo toilet paper roundup of the best!), including Bippy, Go No. 2, Who Gives a Crap, PlantPaper, Better Way and Silk ‘n Soft. We compared it to one drugstore brand, Quilted Northern.
Money Report: 😍 Even though the roll size is on the small side of TP that we tried, Brandless Bamboo toilet paper is among some of the cheapest we have reviewed.
The Good:
✔ Tree-free toilet paper, made of bamboo and sugar cane
✔ One of the cheapest sustainable toilet paper options
✔ Comes in much more manageable package sizes for those with apartments or small homes
✔ Soft, not scratchy toilet paper
The Bad:
✗ Small rolls
✗ Toilet paper has likely been bleached
✗ Though we have not had any issues, the toilet paper doesn’t feel reliable
