Chomp NHAP Toothpaste Tabs and Toothbrush Review 2021 | Zero Waste Toothpaste and Bamboo Toothbrush
The Top Line:
MIXED - if you can afford the extra cost (about $120 per year, per person — almost 5X more expensive versus drugstore brands), then the Chomp products are great. Like with Bite, our only issue with Chomp is how expensive the products are — particularly the toothpaste bits. All of the pros are: a fluoride alternative (NHAP), cruelty-free (not tested on animals), zero-waste (cardboard, paper and glass packaging), and a soft, compostable bamboo toothbrush. From a quality standpoint, Chomp is a great product. We especially like that in addition to NHAP, Chomp is whitening and contains no xylitol.

Cost & Products: $12.95 for 60 NHAP Whitening Toothpaste Tablets and $4.99 for a Bamboo Flossing Toothbrush. They also have 60 tablet refills a bit cheaper at $10.95.
Note: There are other tablets that do not contain NHAP, which are bottled in aluminum and run a bit cheaper both initial purchase and refill. We did not test these.
How ‘Clean’ Is This? Pretty clean! All of the ingredients are ranked low risk by EWG.

Good to Know: Chomp Toothpaste does not contain fluoride. Instead, it contains NHAP, which is a cruelty-free mineral alternative that strengthens teeth and addresses sensitivity. Chomp has written about NHAP here.

Also, fluoride toothpaste, by FDA requirements, has to be tested on animals. Since Bite Toothpaste Bits contain nHap instead of fluoride, they are cruelty-free.

The Experience
Context: We have wanted to try a zero waste toothpaste for so long! We also wanted to find a better bamboo brush and always up to try a new floss. We recently reviewed Bite, which offers a complete dental set. Chomp has the toothpaste and toothbrush, but no floss or mouthwash.
Chomp’s toothpaste tablets are a little softer to chew on - not like a multivitamin
The peppermint flavor is pleasant
Within 10-15 seconds of brushing, the tablet starts to foam
Our teeth feel super clean and minty after brushing

We liked this toothbrush!
The bristles are softer than the other two bamboo toothbrushes we’ve tried (Bite and Public Goods)
While we would NOT call this a flossing toothbrush, the bristles are feathered to get a little closer to the gums.
The Cost
The Chomp Toothpaste tablets are good for one brush. We did a bit of homework, and with each brush, you use about 0.5grams of regular toothpaste, so 365 grams per year if you’re a twice-a-day brusher.
For toothbrushes, we assume you change your toothbrush every 3 months, as the ADA recommends.
We did the math for for 1 person per year in the below calculations.
Money Report:
Chomp Toothpaste Tablets are even more pricey than Bite Toothpaste bits. The difference is that with Bite, you would need to subscribe to get the cheaper cost.
Chomp Bamboo Flossing Toothbrush is the cheapest compared to other bamboo toothbrushes when you get the 4 pack but still more than plastic toothbrushes.
