Cocofomm Powder Shampoo Review 2021 | Eco-friendly, sustainable powder shampoo

Cocofomm Powder Shampoo Review 2021 | Eco-friendly, sustainable powder shampoo

The Top Line: It’s a BUY. We are big fans of Cocofomm powder shampoo! We like that it can replace full sized bottles of liquid shampoo, completely plastic free packaging, and how nicely it foams up in the shower. Most importantly, our hair and scalp feels incredible clean and healthy afterwords. Great for travel too!

The Breakdown:

  • Cost & Products: $12.00 for a pouch that is for up to 30 washes.

  • How ‘Clean’ Is This? It comes in a paper pouch, and the powder to lather formula means you can replace plastic shampoo bottles of shampoo with Cocofomm. It is free of of sulfates, parabens, petrochemicals, animal derivatives, pthalates. Since it is powder form, it also reduces the carbon footprint from shipping. They recommend you use your own glass jar, or you can purchase one from them!

  • Packaging: Paper/recyclable packaging.

  • Purchasing & Shipping: Quick checkout and shipping at cocofomm.com.

  • Good to know: Liquid shampoos are on average 80% water! Cocofomm is powder to foam, so extra awesome for travel.

The Experience

Context: I have an sensitive scalp (irritable, dandruff, etc.) and typically wash my hair 2-3x a week. I’ve used Head & Shoulders as well as Living Proof most consistently over the years. I have also tried Susteau’s Hair Wash which is similar in that it is a powder shampoo that foams up with water.

  • I found Cocofomm to be incredibly soothing to my scalp.

  • The Cocofomm powder foams up quite nicely — found it to foam up more easily than Susteau

  • Hair and scalp felt very clean (but not too squeaky clean) afterwards, hair felt soft.

  • Scent is very light — smells of the tea tree oil

Overall, very happy with the experience! Great product to bring when traveling as well.

The Cost

We compared Cocofomm with shampoo bars and bottled liquid shampoos, as well as Susteau, the other powder shampoo option we’ve tried. We found the cost to be very reasonable compared to other options.

The Good:

Hair and scalp felt AMAZING after - clean and healthy

Powder foams up very nicely, no leftover granules

Love the minimal, recyclable packaging

Made with coconut oil, kaolin clay, tea tree oil

Aloe vera for conditioning and hydration for hair and scalp

✔ Free of sulfates, parabens, petrochemicals, animal derivatives, pthalates

The Bad:

Site was a bit harder to navigate

We're on a mission to reduce our personal carbon footprint with small, hopefully easy, changes in our home to fight against climate change. This means we're looking for products that may be all natural, ideally zero waste, reusable or compostable -- while still being affordable!
