GREAT buy, particularly for infant and toddler aged kids! Our kids LOVED Bubbsi Shampoo & Wash’s animal shaped bottles, which are made of a soft food-grade silicone, and it has become an extra bath toy for us. We love the clean ingredients and very light coconut scent. While it is a bit pricier, it feels like we’re paying a bit extra for a bath toy and soap in one, and it does get more affordable when you buy the refill pouch!
Very mixed. The Puracy Shampoo refill is a maybe buy but we will not be buying the Puracy conditioner. The ingredients overall are better than your average drugstore brand, which is great. The plastic reduction is also notable compared to shampoo and conditioner bottles - we like that. Cost wise, it’s comparable to other refills but more than drugstore brands. The scent of the conditioner was just too bizarre for us.
BUY. We have loved ❤️ using Lulu Organics Hair Powder over the last few months. Made with only 4 ingredients, and virtually plastic-free, we like that the powder keeps us neat between washes. Also, Lulu Orgranics is budget-friendly, comes in a travel-sized option, and has 6 different scent options.
BUY. We love byHumankind’s conditioner bar in grapefruit — it is super easy to use and leaves our hair moisturized without having to blow dry. No waste, lasts a long time, and costs about the same as drugstore conditioners? Yea, we converted. We are excited to try the other scents.
It’s a BUY. We are big fans of Cocofomm powder shampoo! We like that it can replace full sized bottles of liquid shampoo, completely plastic free packaging, and how nicely it foams up in the shower. Most importantly, our hair and scalp feels incredible clean and healthy afterwords. Great for travel too!
Ethique, as a company, is pretty great - a b-corporation with zero plastic packaging who plants trees and donates portions of their sales. Additionally, their ingredients tend to be limited, with mostly natural and those that have low impact on the environment. We loved their solid shampoo and solid face cleanser. We liked their solid conditioner bar and their zero waste deodorant. If we’re using them at night, we don’t mind the solid face and body moisturizers, but the thickness of them are just a bit much for daytime.

Butter Me up Organics’ Bamboo Paddle Brush is a BUY! We’re a fan of how this brush handles and how it feels on our scalp. We love that it is 100% biodegradable, made from sustainable bamboo and natural rubber, and packaged in recycled cardboard. Plus, the price is great. What’s not to like?
BUY: While Habitat Botanicals has the Buy One, Get One Free Daily Essentials kit, we recommend a BUY on the set! This way, you would get to try out all of the individual products and get a flavor for what you like! If you want to go down the individual route, we would recommend the zero waste shampoo, conditioner, and vegan deodorant. While the body wash was nice to use, it’s a bit pricy (not as pricey as liquid body wash though), as is the lip balm.
BUY. We really enjoyed Kitsch’s Nourishing Shampoo and Conditioner bars. The size of the bars is really generous and the scent is lovely. The bars lather really nicely and you don’t need much to get through your hair, for both shampoo and conditioner. Bars are from naturally derived ingredients and natural scents. Our little nitpicks are that the bags were packaged in plastic and that the ingredients may cause reaction in some people (we have been totally fine, fwiw). The cost of the bar bundle is the cheapest one that we’ve reviewed and competes with drugstore brands. Overall, we are excited about trying the other two bars that Kitsch has available.
BUY. We love how HiBAR Maintain Shampoo and Conditioner makes our hair feel. We know that both components of the set are worth their while since we forgot to rinse with vinegar once and our hair was still silky smooth and lovely. The shampoo bars are plastic-free, zero-waste, and come in compostable/recyclable packaging. Ingredients are natural and use essential oil for fragrance. As a set, the duo is very affordable and has a flexible subscription model (though it’s not necessary). We are excited to try the other 2 types of hair washes.
Sadly, we are a no on byHumankind’s Shower Routine. Given that we are iffy on 2/3, we are a no on the whole kit.
BUY. The Lush Conditioner Bar is a great addition to your shower if zero-waste, plastic-free, or cruelty-free is your goal. We love that it has argan oil. Plus, on a cost basis, it is in line with both other conditioner bars on the market as well as conditioner bottles. The only issue we see here is if fragrance-free or 100% natural is your goal, then we would recommend a more natural option.
MIXED. Honestly, we are torn. We loved the way it worked on our hair, knowing that SLS was part of the trick. If going plastic-free is your goal, then Lush’s shampoo bars are not much more than drugstore brands like Pantene Pro-V when it comes to cost per year — and your hair will come out looking great. However, if you are looking for SLS-free and more natural shampoo bar that does not use fragrance, skip the Lush Shampoo Bar.
We like Grove’s mission of being a b-corporation and its curation of eco-friendly, zero-waste and natural brands —we are going to use it like our online convenience store.
Based on the money report, the fact that Grove Collaborative is a b-corp, we feel comfortable suggesting the VIP membership if recurring items are in your basket. Otherwise, there is no necessary commitment to support your favorite green brands by purchasing through Grove Collaborative — you would just need to hit the threshold for free shipping; otherwise shipping is $4.99.
Pubic Goods has incredibly clean packaging and an admirable mission of making sustainable and earth friendly products available on one site. Unfortunately, we barely break even when considering the cost of membership against the products we tried and would actually continue to order.
We like OWA’s Hair Wash! We like that it can replace 4 full sized bottles of liquid shampoo, with no need to use a separate conditioner. Most importantly, our hair and scalp feels incredible clean and healthy afterwords — worth the bit of price premium over other options.
It depends: if you don’t mind squeaky hair or want a bit of texture AND you already have a Public Goods membership, then BUY the Public Goods Shampoo bar. Perks: Zero waste, natural ingredients, extremely affordable and spa-like unisex scent. Using Public Goods Shampoo bar was similar to our experience with byHumankind: a little too ‘squeaky clean’ and/or a ‘waxy’-like. This was not enough to get us to switch from our current favorite, DuJardin’s shampoo bar.
BUY. We like DuJardin’s Volume and Shine Shampoo Bar a lot. We’ve tried ByHumankind, Public Goods, and Lush shampoo bars — this is our favorite so far. Reason why we like this the best? This is the only zero-waste shampoo bar we’ve tried where you don’t absolutely need to do the acidic rinse afterwords. While this one is sold out, we would be excited about trying one of their other shampoo bars.
