Full Circle Walnut Scrubber Sponge Review 2020 | Eco-friendly Kitchen Sponge Alternative

Full Circle Walnut Scrubber Sponge Review 2020 | Eco-friendly Kitchen Sponge Alternative

The Top Line: After trying Public Good’s Walnut Sponge , we wanted to try Full Circle’s Walnut Scrubber Sponge as well — they appear to be very similar products, though Public Good’s version of the walnut sponge is a tad thicker than Full Circle’s Walnut Scrubber Sponge. Similar to our review of Public Good’s Walnut Sponge, we like that Full Circle’s walnut scrubber sponge is ‘cleaner’ than normal plastic sponges, but disappointed that it is still wrapped in plastic and not fully biodegradeable. Still a buy from us!

The Breakdown:

  • Cost & Products: We initially found the Full Circle Walnut Scrubber sponges on Amazon for $7 for 2-pack — and then found that it was $3.59 for a 2-pack on EarthHero! We are seriously confused by the huge price difference.

  • How ‘Clean’ Is This? Better, more clean than normal sponges — but the walnut-based scrubber and vegetable cellulose are still not biodegradable.

  • Packaging: It comes wrapped in plastic — sad face.

  • Purchasing & Shipping: EarthHero is one of our favorite sites to shop!

  • Good to know: It isn’t allergenic, even though its made of walnut shells!

  • What’s Your Impact? While slightly better than normal sponges, we don’t think these make much of an impact — its not biodegradable and comes wrapped in plastic.

The Experience

Context: We have been using Scotch-Brite sponges over the years, and excited to a more ‘natural’ version.

  • We really appreciate the ‘natural look’ of these sponges. Why do sponges need to be bright neon colors? We’re not looking for these guys to stand out!

  • These lasted as long as other sponges we have tried in the past! Didn’t shrivel up or smell after use.

We assume below that you will change your sponge every month, and compared it with Scotch-Brite, Scrub Daddy and Public Goods.

If you aren’t a Public Goods subscriber — these might be worth it, though I feel as though I would be purchasing it more for the look than the price as it is still 2X the cost of Scotch-Brite.

The Good:

Made of ‘greener’ ingredients

We like the look of it — we have always hated the neon bright sponge colors

Works just as well as our previous normal sponge

Doesn’t shrivel up or smell after use

The Bad:

2X the cost of Scotch-brite

Product could be cleaner —- no need for that plastic wrapper!

We're on a mission to reduce our personal carbon footprint with small, hopefully easy, changes in our home to fight against climate change. This means we're looking for products that may be all natural, ideally zero waste, reusable or compostable -- while still being affordable!
