Redecker Copper Scouring Cloth Review 2020 | Eco-friendly, Reusable Copper Scubber Pad

Redecker Copper Scouring Cloth Review 2020 | Eco-friendly, Reusable Copper Scubber Pad

The Top Line: These are a BUY.

Redecker’s 100% recyclable, durable double-layer copper cloths are gentle on most surfaces and tough on stains, stuck-on food, and rust. Great for bathrooms, kitchens, automobiles, silverware and more. And they last forever. We especially like that they are a bit softer to hold than pure copper scrubbers, and the form factor allows you to use like a cloth (for smaller crevices) and fold it up and use like a sponge.

The Breakdown:

  • Cost & Products: $6.99 for 2-pack

  • How ‘Clean’ Is This? Many scrap metal recyclers accept items that are at least 50% metal to be recycled - check with your local scrap metal recycler.

  • Packaging: All shipping packaging is plastic free, recyclable, and made from recycled content

  • Purchasing & Shipping: EarthHero is great, free and fast shipping. No complaints here!

  • Good to know: Machine washable, just put it in a cloth bag or a sock before washing. DO NOT use on teflon.

  • What’s Your Impact? Long-lasting, reusable and recyclable — we will be using this for years to come. It would replace tougher scrubber sponges we have been using for sinks and tubs, which a normal family of four might go through 8-10 of those a year.

The Experience

Context:

  • We like that these copper cloths can be narrow and malleable enough to get into crevices (you cannot do that with other sponges)

  • Much stronger than normal scrubber sponges, great at getting caked on/baked on grease

  • We used this on a dirty sink and a baking tray

  • Softer to hold than other pure copper sponges

The Cost

We compared Redecker’s Copper Scouring Pads with other heavy duty scrubber sponges including Chore Boy, Scrub-it, Scotch-Brite, Scrub Daddy and more. For the Scotch-Brite, Scrub Daddy and Full Circle sponges, we assumed a family of four will use 1 new sponge every month. For Scrub-It, we assumed changing out every 6 weeks. For Chore Boy and Redecker, we assume each would last an entire year (as they are made of durable copper):

Money Report: Given how durable the product is, Redecker’s Copper Scouring Pads are very cost effective. But we think its also about the form factor — the ability to use in small crevices or fold up and use like a sponge is really the reason to buy here!

The Good:

These are TOUGH scrubber cloths—we were able to remove caked on grease from a pan

We love the look, the copper is very pretty

It’s a bit softer to hold than other pure copper scrubbers

Great price, especially for how long lasting these are

Doesn’t get gross or smelly (as scrubber sponges might)

You can use throughout your home (kitchen, bathroom, cars, silverware, etc.)

The Bad:

No complaints!

We're on a mission to reduce our personal carbon footprint with small, hopefully easy, changes in our home to fight against climate change. This means we're looking for products that may be all natural, ideally zero waste, reusable or compostable -- while still being affordable!
