Simplici Lemongrass & Calendula Bar Soap 2021 Review| Palm-oil free, zero-waste, plastic free bar soap

Simplici Lemongrass & Calendula Bar Soap 2021 Review| Palm-oil free, zero-waste, plastic free bar soap

The Top Line:

It’s a buy! Overall we have had great experience with Simplici’s Lemongrass & Calendula Bar Soap — it smells INCREDIBLE, and we appreciate that the bars are on the larger and longer-lasting side. Not to mention, it’s palm-oil free, which can be hard to find. It’s ever so slightly more expensive than other bars, but it’s not significant enough to detract us from repurchasing! Plus, we love that it comes in a pack of 6.

The Breakdown:

  • Cost & Products: $33.99 for 6 bars of soap (or $5.66 per 4.5oz bar)

  • How ‘Clean’ Is This? 100% natural ingredients, palm oil free, and no plastic in the packaging. Soap bars are as zero-waste as you can get (better than refillable options as there is no container!).

  • Packaging: Packaged in a compostable, lined, labeled and resealable bag. Bag is lined with a compostable film made from an annually renewable plant.

  • Purchasing & Shipping: We purchased on Amazon.

  • Good to know: Handcrafted in Tennessee, and Palm-Oil free! Not vegan though.

  • Coupons: No coupons that we know of.

  • What’s Your Impact? Reduction in plastic - no plastic, and low carbon footprint as you are not transporting heavy liquids.

The Experience

Context: We have been using Cleancult (and LOVE the lemongrass scent and it’s palm-oil free) and Splendor (also palm-oil free!), but wanted to try some bar soap options, especially another lemongrass scented one!

  • Lemongrass is such a great unisex scent that both my husband and I love

  • We like that this soap is Palm Oil free, plastic free, and with no artificial dyes and fragrances

  • We love that it comes in a bag of 6 bars of soap (no need to reorder as often!) and comes in a compostable bag that is lined with a compostable film - awesome!

  • The soap is harder than Splendor’s, as well as a larger bar, so it lasts longer

  • Lathers well and washes off nicely

The Cost

From online recipes, 4oz of solid soap makes about a gallon (128oz) of liquid soap. So, we are going to calculate how much 100oz of liquid soap costs for comparison. For visualization, 100oz is about 4 of those “normal” sized liquid bottles.

Money Report: While not the most expensive option, it’s also not the least expensive. When compared to the other two Palm-Oil Free options (Cleancult and Splendor), Simplici is right in the middle.

The Good:

Zero - waste

Non-toxic ingredients

Wonderful lemongrass scent

Relatively large soap bar, and longer lasting that other palm-oil free soaps we’ve tried

No residue, lathers nicely, rinses clean and cuts grease

Palm Oil free, plastic free, and with no artificial dyes and fragrances

Clean, minimal packaging - compostable and recyclable

Clean, minimal packaging - compostable and recyclable

The Bad:

A bit pricier at $5.66 per 4.5oz bar

Not vegan, use of lard

We're on a mission to reduce our personal carbon footprint with small, hopefully easy, changes in our home to fight against climate change. This means we're looking for products that may be all natural, ideally zero waste, reusable or compostable -- while still being affordable!
