Amazon Aware 100% Bamboo Toilet Paper Review 2023 | Bamboo Toilet Paper

Amazon Aware 100% Bamboo Toilet Paper Review 2023 | Bamboo Toilet Paper

TRR tried with Amazon Aware 100pct Bamboo Toilet Paper. Here's our review.

The Top Line:

Not a buy. Unfortunately, Amazon Aware 100% Bamboo Toilet Paper is not a buy from us. The convenience of Amazon does not make up for the higher cost and the less-than-stellar softness. While the toilet paper is sturdy and strong, and made of 100% bamboo, there are better bamboo and recycled options on the market. It’s totally fine if you are in a pinch and want a quick delivery Amazon option.

[Update 2024]: Due to inflation, we updated pricing on all of our toilet paper reviews. Our recommendation for Amazon Aware 100pct Toilet Paper did not change as a result of the review.

The Breakdown:

  • Cost & Products: $32.49 for 24 rolls on Amazon

  • How ‘Clean’ Is This? 100% bamboo toilet paper

  • Packaging: Cardboard box and wrapped in recyclable paper

  • Purchasing & Shipping: Amazon

  • What’s Your Impact? Bamboo can grow 3ft in just 24 hours; it can be harvested once a year and doesn’t need to be replanted. It also uses 30% less water than hardwood trees, gives out 35% more oxygen than trees — an acre of bamboo can fix approximately 25 metric tons of atmospheric CO2 per year.

The Good:

100% bamboo toilet paper

Wrapped in paper and packaged in cardboard

Plastic-free

Sturdy and strong paper

The Bad:

Pricey option

Not the softest bamboo option

The Experience

Context: We have used Scott, Seventh Generation, Cottonelle, Charmin and just about every drugstore brand that exists. Seventh Generation was our old staple until our voyage into bamboo and recycled paper options. We have tried our fair share of bamboo and recycled paper, including wrapped batch: Who Gives a Crap (bamboo), bippy, Reel, Mother Earth, and Thrive Market. Check out the latest roundup of sustainable bamboo toilet paper here. Here is our experience with Amazon’s bamboo toilet paper:

  • Softish, it’s certainly not Cottonelle, but it’s also not the softest bamboo TP we’ve tried.

  • Definitely not gas station TP or tissue paper — it does have enough structure.

  • No shredding.

  • Overall, it’s just …fine.

The Cost

One source suggests that the average person uses 100 rolls of toilet paper per year, so we are going to use that for cost comparison. We’ll compare mostly online brands which we’ve reviewed the past (and done a big bamboo toilet paper roundup of the best!), including Elvissmart, Go No. 2, Who Gives a Crap (recycled), PlantPaper, Better Way and Brandless. We compared Amazon Aware Bamboo Toilet Paper to one drugstore brand, Quilted Northern.

Money Report: Amazon Aware Bamboo Toilet Paper is not the cheapest option up there, especially the 12 count. Subjectively, it’s also not a very big roll, so it’s not like a large roll size makes up for the cost either. Cost-wise, not great.

Our Recommendation:

We're on a mission to reduce our personal carbon footprint with small, hopefully easy, changes in our home to fight against climate change. This means we're looking for products that may be all natural, ideally zero waste, reusable or compostable -- while still being affordable!
